The reigning women's tennis Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year, Espinal opened the Fall section of her sophomore campaign on a phenomenal start, finishing as the ITA South Regional Runner-Up with a 5-1 record against the best singles players in the NCAA South Region. Seeded No. 4 overall, Espinal had to go through the defending No. 1 player in the nation, West Florida's Berta Bonardi, rolling through to the Final on a commanding 6-4, 6-0 victory.
