Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (September 20, 2006) - Kelly Diershow (Fr. Schaumburg, Ill.) scored two goals and Shurell Burton (So., Palm Bay, Fla) registered the game-winner as Nova Southeastern (7-0-0, 1-0-0) defeated Eckerd College (1-6-2, 0-2-1) by a score of 6-0 on Wednesday night.
Burton opened the scoring in the 11th minute as she slipped the ball past Tritons' goalkeeper Melinda Montano for her 12th goal of the season and a 1-0 Sharks lead.
15 minutes later, Monica Tobin (Fr., Cumming, Ga.) converted on a penalty kick for her first career goal.
In the 37th minute, Diershow put in the first of her two goals after Stephanie Quinones (So., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) made a long pass from midfield. Diershow tracked down the ball and deposited it to the lower left corner of the net. Later, Diershow notched her fourth goal of the season and third in two games when she took a shot from the right side of the box that found its way through Eckerd replacement 'keeper Chelsea Rusche.
Alyssa Fernandez (So., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and Alexis Hernandez (Fr., Miramar, Fla.) also tallied goals in the rout.
Nicole Paquette (Jr., Seminole, Fla.) and Megan Kim (Fr., Valrico, Fla.) combined for NSU's fifth shutout of the season.
Amy Lambert led the way for the Tritons with two shots on goal.
For the Sharks, this win adds to the best start in the history of the NSU women's soccer program and ties the 2000 team for the longest winning streak in program history.
NSU will be back in action on Tuesday, September 26 as they host the Barry Buccaneers for their second Sunshine State Conference match of the season.
