St. Petersburg, Fla. (Oct. 7, 2009) - Nova Southeastern University's women's soccer team scored one goal in each half as the Sharks downed Eckerd on Wednesday evening at the Turley Complex. The Sharks now improves to 6-4-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the Sunshine State Conference. Eckerd falls to 1-7-1 on the season and 0-4-0 in the conference.
Alexis Hernandez (Jr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) put the Sharks up 1-0 in the 35th minute off a feed from Elizabeth Brauher (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii). Hernandez helped with NSU's second goal, finding Aubrey Fondy (Fr., Arvada, Colo.) in the 68th minute.
NSU held a 13-7 advantage in shots as well as a 3-2 edge in corner kicks. Both Eckerd and the Sharks committed six fouls. Sarah Glass (R-Jr., Melbourne, Fla.) made two saves en route to recording her fifth shutout of the season. Marisa Berger had five saves for the Tritons.
The Sharks are back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 13 when they host No. 8 Rollins. Tuesday night will also be Kick for the Cure, a fundraiser benefiting the Susan G. Komen Foundation. There will be prize giveaways as well as the first 250 fans will receive a free t-shirt.
