FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Dec. 29, 2009) - The Nova Southeastern University men's basketball team downed Concordia (NY) 87-70 on Tuesday evening to win their fifth straight game inside the Don Taft University Center. The win improves the Sharks record to 6-3 on the season while Concordia falls to 0-10.

"I liked the way we played," said NSU head coach Gary Tuell. "We were a tired team before the break and tonight we were fresher and ready to play. We shot the three extremely well and had five players in double-figures for the first time this year. I thought everyone played well."

The Sharks closed the first half on a 7-0 run to lead 42-32 at the half. NSU extended their lead to 20 points, their largest of the game, with 8:47 remaining on a three-pointer by freshman guard Brian Cahill (Arlington, Va.). The Sharks would coast from then on to win by the 87-70 final score, their largest margin of victory on the season.

Junior forward Alex Gynes (Nowra, Australia) led the Sharks in scoring for the second consecutive game with 17 point. He fell just shy of a double-double with nine rebounds and also had two assists, a block and a steal. Junior center Ross Allsop (Sydney, Australia) posted his second double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds. He also had two assists, two blocks and a steal. Freshman forward Luke Roesch and Cahill set new career highs with 11 and 16 points, respectively. Junior guard John Brooks (Riverside, Calif.) contributed with 10 points and three rebounds.

Lavor Morris led Concordia with 24 points while William Eason had a team high 19 rebounds for the Clippers.

"When we play hard this is a fun team to coach," said Tuell. "When they give a good effort, share the ball and are unselfish, it gives us a chance to be pretty good. It would really help us to get Rob (Huntington) back. But this is a fun team to coach, they're good kids and they really care."

Nova Southeastern opens Sunshine State Conference play tomorrow night against Saint Leo at 7:30 p.m. inside the Don Taft University Center.
