Tim Coenraad Earns 3rd All-SSC Men's Basketball Selection

Darrin Williams Honored On The All-Freshman Team

ORLANDO, Fla. (Mar. 5, 2009) - For the third time in four years year, Nova Southeastern University men's basketball player Tim Coenraad (Sr., Brisbane, Australia) was selected as an All-Sunshine State Conference basketball player, it was announced by SSC Commissioner Michael J. Marcil on Thursday. Voting was done by the conference's men's basketball coaches and sports information directors.

Coenraad led the Sharks to a third place finish in the highly competitive Sunshine State Conference this season, averaging 13.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. He was named the SSC Freshman of the year and tabbed 2nd team All-Conference in his freshman campaign (2005-06). In 200708, Coenraad was named to the All-Sunshine State Conference Second Team, NABC All-South Region First Team and DAKTRONICS All-South Region Second Team.

The conference announced the Player of the Year (Nick Wolf, Rollins), the Defensive Player of the Year (Erick Nsangou, Barry), Freshman of the Year (Derek Hellemann, Florida Tech) and Coach of the Year (Linc Darner, Florida Southern).

Joining Coenraad on the First-Team All-SSC were Wolf, Rashad Callaway (Tampa), Southeastern), Rob Eldridge (Florida Southern), and Chris Hall (Lynn).

Earning All-SSC Second Team honors with Hellemann were: Quentin Cullop (Saint Leo), Jordan Prais (Saint Leo), Rion Rayfield (Florida Southern), John Thompson (Florida Southern), and Karega Tucker (Barry).

Florida Tech's Ryan Ballard and Rollins' Kevin Hogan received honorable mention.

Five student-athletes were recognized as members of the All-Freshman Team. Joining Hellemann were: Simon Cummings (Florida Tech), Kornilous Donnell (Eckerd), Preston Fredrick (Florida Southern), and Darrin Williams (Nova Southeastern).

NSU is back in action on Saturday when the Sharks face second-seed Rollins in the semifinals of the 2009 BlueCross BlueShield of Florida Men's Basketball Tournament. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m at the Arena at the Don Taft University Center. Winner of that semifinal game will face the winner of the Florida Southern/Tampa semifinal in Sunday's Championship game.
