FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Behind a solid performance by the defensive line,
Chrissy Hy (Jr., Weston, Fla.) and the Nova Southeastern University Sharks (7-3-1, 4-0-1 SSC) posted their sixth shutout of the year, beating the Eckerd College Tritons (1-11-0, 0-6-0 SSC) 4-0 at the NSU Soccer Complex Tuesday night, Oct. 12.
NSU fired early, pressing Eckerd at the beginning of the game.
Shanoska Young (Sr., Kingston, Jamacia) was foulded in the box in the seventh minute earning a penalty kick for the Sharks, the teams fifth of the year.
Alexandra Siciliano (Fr., New Hyde Park, N.Y.) took the PK, and booted it into the left side for the opening goal, her third of the season.
Just under eight minutes later, NSU struck again with the final goal of the half when
Alexis Hernandez(Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) received kicked a centering pass from
Malin Broberg (Fr., Stockholm, Sweden) in the 15th minute. The goal was Hernandez’s team-leading eighth goal and Broberg’s team-leading fourth assist of the season.
After 45 minutes of action, NSU held a 14-1 advantage in total shots, while edging the Tritons 6-1 in corner kicks.
Following halftime, NSU displayed more of the same offense pressure, finding the net early again when
Sarah Wareham (Jr., Davie, Fla.) caught a pass from Hernandez and scored in the 55th minute of action. The goal was Wareham’s first of the season, while Hernandez posted her first assist as well.
The final came when
Susie Lee (Sr., New Hope, Minn.) kicked in her second goal of the year through the fingertips of the Eckerd Keeper Kelly Zahorski in the from 15 yards away in the 89th minute.
The Sharks showed their offensive power today, taking 22 total shots to Eckerd’s six, and also leading corner kicks 8-1.
NSU steps on their home pitch again to face the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish next Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 pm.
