FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern men’s basketball team finished its preseason with a 99-49 victory over Miami AAU Wednesday night at home.
The Sharks were led by
Alex Gynes (Sr., Nowra, Australia) who scored 33 points in the contest and went 4-for-6 from the free throw line.
John Brooks (Sr., Perris, Calif.) followed with a 15-point game aided by three made three-pointers.
Miami AAU, a team mostly made up of former NSU basketball players, struggled at the start of the game and put themselves in a hole they’d never climb out of. The Sharks would earn 12 points before the visiting team could score. Despite a 7-2 run for Miami AAU, the Sharks maintained control of the contest and led by 27 points at halftime.
The Sharks never took the foot off the gas in the second half and did not allow the opposition to make a run. The Sharks led by 38 points with 10 minutes remaining and eventually stretched the lead to 50 points. The Sharks played two balanced halves as the home team score 50 points in the first and 49 in the second.
The Sharks received a scoring boost from the guards off the bench as
Teddy Tassy (Jr., Boca Raton, Fla.) scored 14 points and
Cody Dennison (So., Newark, Ohio) contributed 13 points.
Miami AAU was led by NSU alumnus Garth Campbell who scored 10 points, the only visiting player to score in double digits.
NSU men’s basketball will kick off the regular season this Friday, Nov. 12 at 6:30 p.m. in a home game against Warner.
