Ft. Pierce, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern men’s and women’s swimming teams performed well, but dropped a road meet at Indian River State College. The women participated in an dual meet against Indian River falling 130-92, while the men fell to Indian River 159- 106 and NCAA Division I Texas A&M 173-90. 
"Our team has done a great job swimming in competitions week after week since September,” head coach Hollie Bonewit-Cron said. “Today's meet was a great indication of where we are in the season, with our training regimen, and where we will get better in our events and as a team. We not only challenged the teams we swam, but we also challenged ourselves to a better level of awareness."
Ashley Aranda (Jr., Kenner, La.) and Devan Martin (So., Duluth, Ga.) got things started for the Shark women with fourth (1:02.24) and fifth place (1:03.80) finishes in the 100-yard back respectively. On the men’s side, Josh Davis (Fr., Huron, S.D.) finished fifth at 0:52.29, while Darren Rubenchik (Fr., Ontario, Canada) finished seventh at 0:56.42.
In the women’s 100-yard breaststroke, Ewa Jamborska (Jr., Katowice, Poland) posted the win at 1:07.88, while Ashley Bransford (Fr., Santa Cruz, Aruba) finished third at 1:09.29. For the men, Josh Anderson (Fr., Ft. Myers, Fla.) finished third at 0:58.11 to lead the Sharks, while Armin Hornikel (Jr., Goose Creek, S.C.) finished seventh at 0:59.59. Cameron Pfahler (So., Neptune Beach, Fla.) and Jonathan Key (Fr., Biltmore Lakes, N.C.) finishe at 1:02.33 and 1:05.23 respectively. 
Nichole Schultz (Fr., Roseville, Calif.) posted a third-place finish in the women’s 100-yard butterfly at 1:01.60, while Marissa Leonard (Fr., Overland Park, Kan.) finished fourth at 1:05.65. On the men’s side, Jorge Ospina (Jr., Lazumillos, Venezuela) finished sixth at 0:52.21, while Jim Shelley (Fr., Charlottesville, Va.) and Tyler Wilson (Fr., Ft. Myers, Fla.) finished at 0:56.65 and 0:56.66 respectively. 
Alexandra Zatylny (Fr., Quebec, Canada) finished second in the women’s 1000-yard freestyle at 11:21.99, while Jonas Grundstrom (Jr., Fagersta, Sweden) finished second in the men’s event at 9:48.41. Chris Norris (Fr., Tallahassee, Fla.) also raced for the men finishing fifth at 10:04.30, while Alex Tarr (Jr., Everett, Wash.) finished seventh at 10:27.79. 
NSU’s Aranda posted a fourth place finish in the women’s 100-yard freestyle at 2:02.08, while Bransford finished fifth at 2:07.77. On the men’s side, Ospina finished at 1:46.30 for seventh, while Nathan Caldwell (Fr., Naples, Fla.), Eddie Bandi (Fr., Valrico, Fla.) and Shelley finished 12th through 14th respectively. 
Nicole Gaynor (So., Orlando, Fla.) picked up a third place spot in the women’s 50-yard freestyle finished at 0:25.22, while Zatylny and Leonard posted exhibition times of 0:26.14 and 0:27.60. For the men, Ash Dougan (Jr., Tewksbury, England) finished in fifth at 0:21.82. Davis and William Bungie (Jr., Springfield, Mo.) finished 10th and 11th respectively at 0:22.72 and 0:22.89. 
Indian River took first in the women’s 400-yard individual medley, but Jamborska finished second at 4:40.90, while Shultz finished fourth at 4:57.88. John Michael Hayes (Fr., Jacksonville, Fla.) finished seventh in the men’s event at 4:21.29 and Key finished eighth at 4:23.30. Wilson (4:30.76) and Eric Brothman (Fr., Laurel, Md.) finished ninth and 10th. 
After a brief intermission, Schultz posted a second-place finish in the women’s 200-yard butterfly at 2:14.47 and Martin finished third at 2:19.08. Ospina picked up the Sharks’ second win of the day in the men’s event finished at 1:55.05. Hayes (2:00.73) and Rubenchik (2:01.90) finished sixth and seventh respectively. 
In the women’s 100-yard free, Gaynor finished second at 0:55.91, while Zatylny finished third at 0:57.07. Dougan finished seventh to pace the men at 0:48.78. Bunge followed with a time of 0:49.99, while Caldwell (52.44) and Anderson (53:12) rounded out the NSU men participants.
Although Aranda picked up top points for the women in the 200-yard backstroke, she finished with the third best time due to Indian River exhibitions at 2;12.68. Martin followed at 2:18.54. Davis was fifth best for the men finishing at 1;58.54, while Brothman finished 10th at 2:13.69. 
Leonard was the only NSU participant in the women’s 500-yard free finished with second-best time of 5:29.56. On the men’s side, Grundstrom picked up top points, but finished with the fourth-best time of 4:45.65. Norris followed at 4:51.06 and Tarr posted a time of 4:51.91. 
In the women’s 200-yard breaststroke, Jamborska picked up top time for NSU finishing at 2:26.43, while Bransford finished at 2:31.94. In the men’s 200-yard breast, Hornikel (2:11.00) finished second, followed by Pfahler’s (2:14.35) fourth place finish. Key (2:19.86) finished sixth and Anderson (2:28.77) finished seventh. 
The final event of the day was the 200-yard freestyle relay. Gaynor, Zatylny, Leonard, and Bransford teamed up to finish at 1:42.34 for top points, while Aranda, Martin, Jamborska, and Schultz culminated a time of 1:45.96. On the men’s side, Dougan, Bunge, Hornikel and Shelley finished third at 1:29.40, while Caldwell, Rubenchik, Bandi, and Pfahler finished fourth at 1:31.84. 
The Sharks will have one month to prepare for their next meet which will be at home against Carleton at the NSU Aquatic Center at 1:00 p.m.
"We have an opportunity over the next month to take our training to another level to prepare us for performing well at the end of the season,” Bonewit-Cron concluded.
