FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern’s John Brooks (Sr., Perris, Calif.) set an NSU record with nine three-pointers made in the Sharks’ (6-4) 98-91 home win over the Franklin Pierce Ravens Saturday night. The Sharks won their third straight game and finished 2-0 in the Trip Sports Cruzin Classic.

Brooks led the team in scoring with 33 points on 11-for-18 shooting from the floor and 9-for-14 shooting from beyond the arc. He was also perfect from the free throw line. Brooks increased his points per game by two and is now the team’s second leading scorer with 13.2 ppg. Alex Gynes also had a solid night, collecting team-highs with eight rebounds and a career-high seven assists.

The Sharks came out swinging in the first half and took an 18-10 lead just seven minutes into the game. The Ravens (3-8) would take the lead before the break as they burned the Sharks from downtown. After starting the game 2-for-5 from three-point range, the Ravens would finish the half shooting 50 percent on three’s. They sank twelve treys by halftime and finished the game with 18, the most against the Sharks this season. NSU entered the break down by five.

After a 10-point first half, Brooks nailed two three’s within the first two minutes of the second half to tie the game. The Raven’s continued to hit their hot shooting and eventually took a double-digit lead with eight minutes remaining. The Sharks would make a comeback on the backs of Brooks and Gynes as they combined for 20 of NSU’s final 32 points.

With a one point lead and 1:27 left on the clock, Robert Huntington (Jr., Perth, Australia) brought down a crucial offensive rebound before Lukas Roesch (So., Sugar Grove, Australia) hit a three from the right wing. The Ravens never climbed back in the game as the Lemar Dyer (Sr., Miami, Fla.) drove the Sharks to victory by shooting 6-for-6 from the foul line within the final 35 seconds of the game.

Dyer finished the game with 11 points on 8-for-8 shooting from the free throw line along with one three-pointer. Roesch shot 5-for-6 from the floor, scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds.

Huntington and Ross Allsop (Sr., Sydney, Australia) helped the Sharks outrebound the Ravens, 37-30, by bringing down a combined 13 boards. Max Papendieck (Sr., Adelaide, Australia) rounded out NSU’s five players in double figures by scoring 10 points on 4-for-7 shooting.

NSU put forth a solid offensive effort by shooting 52 percent from the floor, 50 percent from three-point range, and 84 percent from the line.

The Sharks will take off the rest of 2010 and return to the NSU Arena on Sunday, Jan. 2nd to face King College (Tenn.) at 4 p.m.
