Lynn Escapes With 76-74 Win Over NSU Men's Basketball

Junior Guard John Brooks Scores 13 Point In Losing Effort

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Feb. 10, 2010) - The Nova Southeastern University basketball team turned the ball over on an inbounds pass with 3.4 seconds left in a tie game and Lynn University took advantage, hitting a lay-up as time expired to defeat the Sharks 76-74 on Wednesday evening. The loss drops NSU to 12-10 on the season and 5-7 in Sunshine State Conference play while Lynn improves to 13-10 and 7-5.

"I thought it was a great game, both teams competed and played hard," said NSU head coach Gary Tuell. "It was a clean, hard, really fun game to be a part of. It's a shame that a game that hotly contested and well played ended on a fluke play like that. It's just a shame for both teams because the game really deserved overtime. It was such an evenly matched game and both teams played so hard, I thought that would have been a good place for this game to go. It's too bad the game ended on that play."

Junior point guard John Brooks (Riverside, Calif.) completed the NSU comeback by hitting a pull-up three pointer to knot the score at 74 apiece with 12 second remaining. The Sharks then drew a charge on the defensive end of the court to set up the final sequence of plays with 3.4 seconds to go.

"John Brooks made a great shot that breathed some life into us," said Tuell. "It gave us a great opportunity for what we thought was going to be an overtime game. Our kids competed and played hard. We we're a vastly different team today than we were last Saturday and I'm proud of that."

Sophomore guard Teddy Tassy (Boca Raton, Fla.) led the Sharks in scoring off of the bench with 14 points on 5-9 shooting. He was followed by Brooks with 13 points and junior forward Alex Gynes (Australia) with 12.

Chris Hall led Lynn with 25 points on 9-13 shooting. The Fighting Knights connected on 11-24 three-point shots in the game while limiting the Sharks to just 6-20.

The Sharks remain at home to host Barry at 4 pm on Saturday, February 13th at 4 p.m. inside the Don Taft University Center.
