No. 23 Women's Tennis Edged Out by No. 16 Florida Southern

Lakeland, Fla. (Feb. 27, 2010) - No. 23 Nova Southeastern University women's tennis fell at No. 16 Florida Southern on Saturday afternoon. The loss pits NSU at 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the Sunshine State Conference, while Florida Southern improves to 7-0 overall and 1-0 in the SSC.

The start of the match was delayed to the afternoon after rain came down in the Lakeland area during Saturday morning. Florida Southern took two of the three doubles. NSU's only doubles win came at the No. 3 slot as Mary Crider (Sr., Georgetown, Texas) and Paige Lindsley (Jr. Albuquerque, N.M.) had an 8-3 win over Amanda Carns and Nora Baertschi. At No. 1 doubles, Senka Softic and Agnese Rozite, ranked No. 17 in the nation, defeated Justine Feaster (So., Escondido, Calif.) and Federica Longo (Fr., Buenos Aires, Argentina) 8-2. Elisa Leeder (Sr., Eisenhuettenstadt, Germany) and Karolina Porizkova (Sr., Prostejov, Czech Republic) were defeated by Veronika Kovacikova and Andrea Arguello 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.

In singles play, Porizkova, Crider and Lindsley all emerged with wins. Porizkova topped Kovacikova 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 2 slot. Crider came away with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Baertschi at No. 5 singles, while Lindsley went 6-0, 6-2 over Carns at No. 6 singles.

Softic, ranked No. 4 in singles nationally, defeated Daria Egorova (Jr., Obninsle, Russia)1-0, unfinished at No. 1 singles. In the No. 3 slot, Arguello won by retirement against Leeder, 6-1, 5-1. Rozite defeted Feaster 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.

Following a week-long break, NSU returns to action on Monday, March 7 against No. 7 West Florida. Match time is scheduled for 10 a.m. from NSU Tennis Center at Rolling Hills.
