Pensacola, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University women’s soccer team opened the 2010 season at the ArgoFanShop.com Invitational on Friday night with a 2-1 overtime loss against the host West Florida Argonauts.
Shanoska Young (Sr., Kingston, Jamaica) scored her first goal of the season to give the Sharks an early 1-0 lead off an assist from
Raye Salkey (Fr., Palm Bay, Fla.). NSU would carry the lead into the intermission.
Coming out of the break, West Florida’s Shakira Duncan chipped in the tying score over NSU goalkeeper
Chrissy Hy (Jr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) just 7:37 into the second half to tie the game 1-1. Although the Argonauts led in total shots 7-4 in the second half, most missed their mark as regulation ended in a tie.
In the 99th minute of overtime play, UWF’s Jodi-Ann Robinson broke the tie scooting the ball into the back post off a Duncan pass on the right side to give the Argonauts a 2-1 win.
NSU’s Hy faced 18 opposing shot and recorded six saves for the Sharks, while Argo keeper faced 11 NSU shots stopping four.
The Sharks will conclude action at the ArgoFanShop.com Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 5 facing off with North Alabama at 11 am.
