Women's Soccer Shutout Eckerd for First Sunshine State Conference Win

McCusker scored the first goal of the game, her second of the season.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.
– The Nova Southeastern women’s soccer team (7-2-1, 1-1-1 SSC) notched its first Sunshine State Conference win defeating Eckerd (3-8-0, 0-4-0 SSC), 3-0.

The Sharks were like snipers on the field finding their target from long-distance, beginning with Kelsey McCusker's (Fr., Stone Harbor, N.J.) 30-yard blast from the left-side of the field during the 15th minute.  The goal was McCusker’s second of the season.

Sharks leading scorer Malin Broberg (So., Stockholm, Sweden) would find the net next during the 26th minute after receiving a pass from Rachael Reid (Sr., Indianapolis, Ind.) in the center of the box allowing her to score. Broberg has tallied 18 points on seven goals and four assists.

Reid planted a rocket of her own into the net, this time 30-yards out from the right side of the field during the 39th minute. The goal was unassisted and her second of the season.

The Sharks outshot the Tritons 21 to three, the Sharks have outshot opponents 186 to 96 on the season.

Goalkeeper Michelle Fuerst (Jr., Armonk, N.Y.) (3-2-1) was credited with the win; she made three saves and recorded her second shutout of the season.  

Lauren Fernandez was credited with the loss for the Tritons, she played 45 minutes allowing three goals and making five saves. Morgan Crescent replaced Fernandez in goal at halftime, she did not allow a goal and made four saves in 45 minutes.

The Sharks return home to play Tuesday, Oct. 4 against No. 6 Saint Leo at 5 p.m.
