BOX SCORE

MELBOURNE, Fla. –
In a matchup of the 2010 Sunshine State Conference regular season co-champions, the Nova Southeastern women’s soccer team (9-2-1, 3-2-1 SSC) was triumphant over No. 21 Florida Tech (8-3-1, 2-3-1 SSC), 1-0. Dilja Olafsdottir (So., Reykjavik, Iceland) netted the game-winner after a corner kick by Andi Burchfield (Fr., Greenville, S.C.) during the 73rd Minute.

The goal was Olafsdottir’s third of the season, and Burchfield’s assist was her sixth of the season, tying Rachael Reid (Sr., Indianapolis, Ind.) for the team lead in assists.

Entering the match both teams were close in the SSC standings, the Sharks were in fourth-place with eight conference standing points and Florida Tech was in fifth-place with seven points. Teams receive three points per SSC win and one point per SSC tie. The top-six teams in the final SSC regular-season standings earn a bid to the SSC Championship.

The first half was a defensive battle, as each team limited scoring opportunities and played each other to a, 0-0, halftime score. NSU attempted four shots and two corner kicks, while Panthers attempted two shots and three corner kicks. Sarah Wareham (Sr., Davie, Fla.) had the best scoring opportunity for the Sharks, with her attempt drifting right of the net with 16 seconds remaining in the period.

By the end of the game the Sharks would attempt three more shots including Olafsdottir’s goal and five more corner kicks. Florida Tech would attempt six more shots and two more corner kicks in the second period.

Winning goalkeeper, Chrissy Hy (Sr., Weston, Fla.) (5-1-0) made a save and recorded her first shutout of the season.

Mist Eliasdottir (8-3-1) was credited with the loss for the Panthers, she played 90 minutes and allowed one goal.

The Sharks play again at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at the NSU Soccer Complex against Tampa.
