FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern men’s basketball team (2-2) will face possibly its toughest opponent so far this season as they travel to Carrollton, Ga. to play the West Georgia Wolves (6-0) Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 7:30 p.m. Follow the game through the Cover It Live frame above.

The Sharks are not easing back into gear after a 10-day Thanksgiving break. Instead, they are diving head first into the deep-end hoping for a victory over an undefeated regional opponent. The Wolves’ victories this season include game against Clayton State and Columbus State, who escaped the NSU Arena with a five-point victory on opening night.

“West Georgia is playing as well or better than anyone in the Gulf South Conference right now, and probably as well as anyone in the South Region,” said head coach Gary Tuell. “They’re the only unbeaten team left in the Gulf South, and for good reason. They have depth, size and some very talented offensive players in D’ron Sims, Gavin Field, Ryan Godfrey and … heck … just about anyone they put on the floor can score. We’re familiar with some of their Australian players because we considered recruiting a few of them before going in a different direction. I’m sure that will be a motivating factor for a few of their guys.

“When you look at who West Georgia has beaten, Morehouse and Clark on the road and a huge win over Clayton State at Clayton State and a home win over Columbus State, you have to appreciate what they’re doing. Clayton State was the preseason favorite to win the always-tough Peach Belt Conference, and Columbus State beat us here by five points, so we know how tough they can be. Mike Cooney does an exceptional coaching job and is one of the truly good guys in our profession, so we’re very much looking forward to this game. It’s the kind of road test that will make us better regardless of the outcome.”

The Sharks are looking to move above .500 for the first time this season. After falling to 1-2 after a loss to NAIA No. 1 Northwood, 87-69, NSU made up for it with a win over Ave Maria at home, 79-71. NSU played an incredibly efficient offensive game as the Sharks shot 64 percent from the floor, 43 percent from 3-point range and 85 percent from the free throw line.

During their 2-2 start, the Sharks were forced to play with a limited lineup. On Tuesday night, Shaun Pratl (Jr., Chicago Ridge, Ill.) and Jacob Reed (So., Perth, Australia) will both be available, marking the first time this season that everyone on the roster is active.

“It’s nice to go into this game healthy and with as close to a full lineup as we’ve had this year,” said Tuell. “Shaun Pratl isn’t in game shape yet, but he’ll be able to contribute and help us inside. Jacob Reed is also not in game shape yet, but we expect him to help us on the perimeter. Both of those guys will be playing their first game of the year and hopefully that will help us with the turnover problem we’ve been having.”

The game will serve as the final go around before the start of Sunshine State Conference season. The Sharks begin conference play Saturday, Dec. 3 against Barry in a high profile game that will be broadcasted across South Florida on 640 Sports. The Sharks’ game against West Georgia will not only be a chance to earn win No. 3, but another chance for this team to gel before SSC play begins.

“We’ve had a good week of practice,” said Tuell. “Our guys have responded well and are anxious to play. With Barry coming up this Saturday, the West Georgia game will be the kind of physical, tough game that will help us get ready for conference play.”
