Basketball Defeated by Lynn Fighting Knights, 86-73

Lynn Seals Win by Shooting 62 Percent in the Second Half

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern men’s basketball team (12-13, 5-10 SSC) lost their fifth straight game Wednesday at the NSU Arena in the Don Taft University Center by losing to the Lynn Fighting Knights (7-18, 5-10 SSC), 86-73.

Alex Gynes (Sr., Nowra, Australia) picked up team-highs with 22 points and 10 rebounds, earning his fifth double-double of the season. Gynes shot 8-for-13 from the floor and 5-for-8 from the free throw line. Lemar Dyer (Sr., Miami, Fla.) dished out a game-high six assists while also recording eight points and three steals.

The Sharks had a strong start in which they controlled much of the first half. They started the game on a 7-2 run and led by as much as seven with 10 minutes left in the period. The Fighting Knights shot their way back into the game by going on a 10-0 run and taking a 23-20 lead with 7:42 remaining in the half. Until the break, it was a back-and-forth effort in which neither team led by more than five points. Teddy Tassy (Jr., Port au Prince, Haiti) hit a three just before halftime as the Sharks entered the break down, 35-33.

Gynes had an impressive first half in which scored 11 points and collected eight first half rebounds for the second straight game. The Sharks shot 11-for-26 from the floor in the period and 5-for-14 from beyond the arc.

The Fighting Knights took control of the second quickly by gaining a double digit lead just five minutes into the period. Lynn controlled the pace of the game from then on out as the Sharks would only come within seven points of the visiting team. Lynn shot 62 percent from the floor (18-for-29) in the second half as they took advantage of as many fast break oppurtunities as possible. They scored 24 points in the paint, almost half their total points in the period. Lynn also doubled NSU’s rebound count, 22-11.

In the end, the Sharks shot 43 percent from the floor but went 8-for-26 from three-point range.

Tassy and John Brooks (Sr., Perris, Calif.) were effective off the bench scoring 18 and 13 points, respectively. They combined to shoot 7-for-13 from three-point range.

The Sharks will end the regular season at home this Saturday, Feb. 26 as they host Florida Southern at 4 pm.
