FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women’s soccer team (6-2-1, 0-1-1 SSC) will aim to fill the net and the win column on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Eckerd (3-7-0, 0-3-0 SSC).
In their previous match, a 3-0 loss to Barry (4-4-0, 1-1-0 SSC); the Sharks outshot the Bucs 20-8 and could not find the net. The Sharks are hoping its inaccuracy during the contest was an aberration from its goals per game average of 3.56 on 18.3 shots per game.
The Sharks are 8-3-3 all-time against Eckerd, and won the previous match, 4-0, in 2010. Current Sharks,
Alexandra Siciliano (So., New Hyde Park, N.Y.) and
Sarah Wareham (Sr., Davie, Fla.), each found the net once during the match.
Thus far in 2011, Sicilliano has scored one goal and been credited with one assist, while Wareham has totaled three goals and two assists.
A repeat performance of the 2010, 4-0 win would be more in-line with the Sharks’ goal production prior to the loss to Barry. The Sharks have scored four goals or more in five of its six victories in 2011 and have shutout three of its opponents.
Eckerd is looking for its first SSC win also, following its 2-1 loss to No. 6 Saint Leo (9-0-0, 2-0 SSC). During the game Eckerd tallied the first goal on a throw-in that met Meredith Mahoney in the box who put where she could place the ball into the net. The goal was Mahoney’s first of the season and it came in her first start of the season.
Arielle Anahory has scored a team high three of Eckerds’ nine goals on the season. Two of those goals came during Eckerds’ 2-1 (OT) victory over Florida Memorial (1-4, 1-1 The Sun Conference). Callie Pederson leads the team in assists with two.
Lauren Fernandez (1-6) has logged the most minutes in goal for the Tritons totaling 630 minutes. She has allowed 18 goals and made 64 saves.
Michelle Fuerst (2-2-1) has logged the most minutes in goal for the Sharks totaling 447:33 minutes. She has allowed six goals and made 15 saves.
