Swimming and Diving Set for Final Dual Meet Before Conference Championship

Sharks will take on nationally-ranked Florida Southern.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern swimming and diving teams are headed to Lakeland, Fla., Jan. 21 to take on the nationally ranked teams of Florida Southern in their final dual meet before the Sunshine State Conference Championship. The No. 13 men come into this event 5-3 (3-0 SSC) and the No. 11 women 4-5 (3-0 SSC).

The Sharks will be looking at very strong completion as the Moccasins women are No. 11 and the men No. 12 in the national rankings. The Moccasins women come into this weekend at 5-4 (2-1 SSC) while the men stand at 4-4 (2-1 SSC).

The Sharks competed in their final home meet of the season Jan. 10, at the NSU Aquatic Center. On the men’s side, the Sharks fell to Florida Atlantic, 106.5-98.5; lost to Western Kentucky, 112-98; but defeated Indiana University of Pennsylvania, 166-39. For the women, the Sharks fell to FAU, 126.5-78.5; fell to WKU, 136-65; but defeated No. 20 IUP, 152-52.

Previously this season, the Sharks competed against Florida Southern at the Shark Invitational held in December.  Nova finished second overall of six competing teams, whereas the Moccasins finished one place behind in third. 

Last season the men’s and women’s swimming teams came out triumphant in their first official home meet of the 2010-11 inaugural season with women defeating Florida Southern 116-85, while the men defeated the Moccasins 129-64. Out of the 22 events, the Sharks won eight out of 11 women’s races and eight out of 11 men’s races.

This event marks the final meet of the regular season before the Sharks faceoff against Florida Southern and the rest of the SSC at the conference championship Feb. 15-18.
