Tassy scores 13 points in his 100th game with NSU.

BOX SCORE

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern men’s basketball team (9-9, 4-5 SSC) lost on the road to the Barry Buccaneers (9-10, 4-4 SSC), 51-50, on a tip-in shot at the buzzer Saturday in Miami Shores, Fla.

Teddy Tassy (Sr., Port-au-Prince, Haiti) played in his 100th game as a NSU Shark and scored 13 points. He put the Sharks ahead by one with six seconds left before Barry hit the game-winner. He’s the fifth player in program history to cross the century mark in games played and is now two games behind former teammate Lemar Dyer.

Shaun Pratl (Jr., Chicago Ridge, Fla.) led the Sharks with a career-high 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting. He was a perfect 3-for-3 from 3-point range. Iran Hollis (Jr., Hollywood, Fla.) brought down a career-high 13 rebounds, four shy of the program record. Justin Jeangerard (Fr., Weaverville, Calif.) had a game-best five assists, without a turnover, along with four rebounds.

The first-half was a seesaw battle in which the Bucs rushed out to an 11-0 lead. The Sharks would answer back with an 18-3 run. The lead would flip-flop multiple times from then on out with the Sharks earning their biggest lead at 29-23 with just over two minutes to go. NSU would carry a three-point lead heading into halftime. Pratl had a great start to the game, shooting 4-for-5 with two 3-pointers in the first period.

The Sharks struggled to score in the second half, scoring 21 points on 27 percent (7-for-26) shooting in the period. It was the Sharks’ worst second-half shooting percentage of the season. The Sharks stayed in the game by locking down the Bucs from the perimeter. Barry, the second-best 3-point shooting team in the Sunshine State Conference, was held to 1-for-8 from downtown after making six treys in the first half.

NSU held a 49-48 lead entering the final minute of the game. The Bucs would retake the lead with 21 seconds left as Barry’s Chad Renfro was fouled by Hollis on a 3-point attempt. Renfro missed the opening free throw but nailed the second and third to put his team up by one point.

The Sharks put the ball in Tassy’s hands in their final possession as the senior drove to the basket but had his shot blocked. Fighting for the rebound, Tassy was fouled and sent to the line with six seconds remaining. With the loud Barry crowd in his ear, Tassy nailed two clutch free throws to give his team a 50-49 lead. He has shot 93 percent (50-for-54) from the foul line this year and is on pace for the program record.

Without a time out, Barry was forced to move up the court in a hurry. Barry’s Justin McCoy managed to get to the rim quickly but his layup bounced out. At the last second, Jermaine Edwards got right to the basket and knocked in the tip-in with the buzzer sounding. It was the fifth-straight time that a game between these two teams ended on a game-winning shot.

Louie Schonauer (Jr., Lincoln, Ill.) had nine points in the contest on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting. Hollis was the lone Shark to record a steal in the game, as this was the fifth contest in program history in which the Sharks only had one steal.

The Sharks will look to end their first losing streak of the season at home Wednesday when they take on the Eckerd Tritons. The game will be broadcasted live on 640 Sports.
