BOX SCORE

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern men’s basketball team (6-6, 2-2 SSC) earned its biggest win of the season as the Sharks defeated Florida Southern (8-4, 2-2 SSC), 90-79, Saturday at the NSU Arena in the Don Taft University Center, breaking a 10-game losing streak against the Mocs.

Teddy Tassy (Sr., Port-au-Prince, Haiti) matched his career-high of 24 points in the effort, shooting 8-for-10 from the floor, 3-for-3 from 3-point range and 5-for-5 from the free throw line. He also added three rebounds and a steal. Robert Huntington (Sr., Perth, Australia) also had one of his best games of the season with 17 points, five rebounds and a game-high six assists. He shot 4-for-5 and made eight free throws. Iran Hollis (Jr., Hollywood, Fla.) pulled down a team-best eight rebounds to go along with 11 points.

The Sharks ended the game shooting a season-high 65.1 percent on 28-for-43 shooting. The percentage was one short of the program record set last season. After shooting 12-for-21 in the first half, the Sharks finished the game by shooting a blistering 72.7 percent (16-for-22) in the second.

NSU started the game off with a bang as the Sharks hit a barrage of 3-pointers. After FSC went up 5-0, their largest lead of the game, the Sharks went on a 15-0 run with 3-pointers from four different players. The game cooled down after that as the Sharks slowly gave up their lead with three minutes left before the half. With FSC up 24-23, the Sharks ended the game on an 11-2 run with Huntington and Tassy combining to score the team’s final 11 points. Sean Mullan (Jr., Mangerton, Australia) tied Tassy for the team-high at the halfway point with eight points.

The Sharks came out firing in the second half and built a 15-point lead with just over 14 minutes remaining. The Mocs stopped the bleeding and almost fought back into the game. They would cut the deficit down to six on three separate occasions but never reached within one possession of the Sharks. NSU would score a season-best 56 points in the second half.

Louie Schonauer (Jr., Lincoln, Ill.) was two points short of his career-high with 11 points. He only made two field goals but iced the game late as he shot a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. Justin Jeangerard (Fr., Weaverville, Calif.) filled up the box score with five points, five rebounds and four assists. Lukas Roesch (Jr., Sugar Grove, Ohio) scored six points on 50 percent shooting.

The Sharks will move on to play back-to-back road games as they face Palm Beach Atlantic Wednesday, Jan. 11 in West Palm Beach, Fla. at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcasted live on 640 Sports.
