FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern men’s and women’s soccer will host the Rollins Tars Saturday in their final regular season home matches of the year. The women will face the Tars at 5 p.m. and the men’s team will follow at 7:30 p.m.
The night will serve as senior nights for both teams.
Cory Harbinson (Delray Beach, Fla.) of the men’s team and
Deirdre Long (Boca Raton, Fla.) and
Michelle Fuerst (Armonk, N.Y.) of the women’s team will play in their final regular season home matches of their careers.
Each match will be played out-of-conference as part of each team’s four extra matches against Sunshine State Conference opponents. The Sharks already faced Rollins in conference play, with each team taking a hard fought loss.
The women’s team lost to the Tars on the road, 2-1. The Sharks fell behind early, but tied the match in the second half on a goal from Dilja Olafsdottir (Jr., Reykjavik, Iceland). However, Rollins nailed the game-winner in the 60th minute and held on until the end.
The men’s team fared no better, falling 3-0 in Winter Park, Fla. The Sharks and Tars played an even first half in which neither team scored. The Tars took control right after halftime, scoring three goals in a matter of six minutes. It was the only time the Sharks have been shutout on the road this season.
The women historically have had trouble with the Tars, coming into this match with a 2-10-4 record against Rollins. However, in two of the previous three seasons, their SSC matches have ended in a draw, both of which were against top-10 ranked Rollin teams. The men have not had too much success against the Tars with 4-10-0 all-time record. The Sharks have lost four straight matches against Rollins.
