FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 24 Nova Southeastern University tennis team is slated to start spring play Feb. 5 at 10 a.m. when the Sharks host State College of Florida at the NSU Tennis Complex.
The Sharks enter Sunday’s match ranked No. 24 in the nation and seventh in the south region. NSU looks to have strong play from
Dominique Wimmer (Sr., Guntramsdorf, Austria) and No. 44
Alexandra Johansson (Fr., Sydney, Australia) who will play in the No. 1 and No. 2 slots Sunday, respectively. Wimmer was a standout for the Sharks last season and both appear to be geared towards a prominent season.
The three doubles teams will consist of Wimmer and Johansson, ranked No. 44 nationally, in the No. 1 slot. The No. 2 slot will be junior returner
Austin Lavallii (Williamston, Mich.) and freshman
Charlotte Cote (Montreal, Canada). Doubles will be rounded out with returners in
Daria Burobina (So., Moscow, Russia) and
Federica Longo (Jr., Buenos Aires, Argentina) in the No. 3 slot.
“Our team has good chemistry this year,” head coach
Michael Coleman stated. “I hope it will continue to get better throughout the season. We have high expectations and a desire to strengthen the program.”
The Sharks will play at home 12 times this year and have nine away matches during the regular season. A bulk of NSU's home schedule will be from Mar. 11 to Mar. 29 when the Sharks host one NCAA Division I, three Division II, including SSC foe Florida Tech, and one Division III team at the NSU Tennis Complex at Rolling Hills.
In 13 seasons, the Sharks have compiled a 9-4 record in opening matches. Last season, the Sharks defeated the St. Thomas Bobcats, 7-2 in its season opener.
