FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 26 Nova Southeastern tennis team (6-6) will host two out-of-conference matches over the next few days as the Sharks face the No. 8 West Florida Argonauts (6-3) Saturday at 2 p.m. and the Towson Tigers (7-4) Monday at 1 p.m. Both matches will be held at the NSU Tennis Complex.
The Sharks are coming off a tough stretch in which they have lost five of their last six matches. NSU has faced a brutal schedule over that stretch against NCAA Division-I and nationally ranked D-II teams. Four of the last six matches have also been played on the road. Fortunately, the Sharks are now in the middle of a five-match home stand, giving NSU a chance to build on their record on their own court.
Despite the recent losses, the Sharks have been unaffected in Sunshine State Conference play. The Sharks started the conference season 1-1 before rattling off three straight road wins against Florida Southern, Rollins and Eckerd. The SSC schedule still has some bumps ahead, as NSU still has not faced Barry or Lynn, two of the top-three teams in the nation.
NSU will face two teams over the coming days that are both on long road trips. After the Argos come down to face NSU, they will travel around the state to face Barry, Lynn and Rollins on three consecutive days. Towson is in the middle of a five-game road trip that has the Tigers playing matches in four different states.
Out-of-conference matches are great for coaches and student-athletes to prepare for the conference games ahead of them. Head coach
Dr. Michael Coleman has been mixing his lineup around as of late and has had three different doubles combinations over the last three matches. The Sharks will also be looking to rebuild momentum in singles action as they were swept in singles play in their last match.
Against Towson Monday, the Sharks will be seeking revenge for a close 5-4 loss against the Tigers last season. However, the Tigers will be facing a much different squad this year. Aside from not having this year’s talented freshman class, the Sharks were also without senior leader
Dominique Wimmer (Guntramsdorf, Austria) in the match.
