No. 26 Tennis Defeated by No. 24 Grand Valley State, 5-4

Johansson and Wimmer earn the only singles points for the Sharks.

ORLANDO, Fla.
– On the conclusion of the Spring Break Tournament, the No. 26 Nova Southeastern tennis team (5-5) lost a close match to No. 24 Grand Valley State (6-3), 5-4, Thursday evening in Orlando, Fla.

In doubles play, Alexandra Johansson (Fr., Sydney, Australia) and Austin Lavallii (Jr., Williamston, Mich.) defeated Tara Hayes and Alyssa Lucas at the top spot, 8-4.  Playing in the No. 2 spot, together for the first time, Charlotte Cote (Fr., Montreal, Canada) and Federica Longo (Jr., Buenos Aires, Argentina) lost, 8-2, to Leah Dancz and Allison Fecko. Dominique Wimmer (Sr., Guntramsdorf, Austria) and Kamryn Blackwood (Farmington, N.M.) won in a close match, 8-6, against Niki Shipman and Lexi Rice.

The Sharks are undefeated when leading after doubles play. Tonight, however, NSU lost the momentum and could not hold the lead.

NSU collected two more points from Johansson, as well as Wimmer in singles play at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively. Johansson won 6-1, 6-4, while Wimmer won in three sets, 2-6, 6-1, 6-0.

Dancz defeated Cote 6-3, 6-4, playing in the No. 3 slot. In the No. 4 spot, Bianca Roberts (Fr., Ft. Walden Beach, Fla.) lost, 6-4, 7-6. Anne Morin took a 6-3, 6-2, win over Blackwood in the No. 5 spot. In the No. 6 spot, Longo lost, 6-3, 6-2.

NSU will rest for a day before they travel to St. Petersburg to play a conference dual against Eckerd at 10:00 a.m. Saturday.
