WINTER PARK, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern men’s basketball team (8-5, 1-3 SSC) dropped a tough Sunshine State Conference road game, falling to the No. 24 Rollins Tars (12-2, 4-0 SSC), 74-63, Wednesday.

Maurice Fuller (So., Westfield, Ind.) tied his highest point total in a NSU uniform, scoring 19 points on 7-for-11 shooting. He nailed five 3-pointers in the conference. Iran Hollis (Sr., Hollywood, Fla.) scored 12 points and tied Lukas Roesch (Sr., Sugar Grove, Ohio) with a team-high five rebounds. Stian Berg (So., Baerum, Norway) came off the bench to earn a team-best four assist.

The Sharks had a roller coaster first half, in which they took an 11-point lead to open up the game. The Sharks were on fire at the start, making eight of their first 10 shots. The Tars shot well themselves during that stretch, shooting 50 percent from 3-point range, but had no answer defensively for NSU.

However, after the 12:51 mark the wheels came off the Sharks’ offense. NSU would make one field goal over the next 12 minutes of the half to give up their double-digit lead. The Sharks did not give it up without a fight, leading for 10 minutes with only one field goal, but gave up the advantage two minutes before the break. Despite the drought, the Sharks would enter the break down by only four points, 35-31.

The Sharks tried to take the lead back at the start of the second half, cutting the deficit to one point, but an 8-0 run gave the Tars their biggest lead thus far at 45-36. NSU would cut the deficit to as low as four points over the next 10 minutes of play, but never retook the lead.

After the Sharks cut the deficit to four points with a 3-pointer from Brian Cahill (So., Arlington, Va.), the Sharks would go on their second major slump. NSU would go without a field goal for a five minute stretch, allowing the Tars to take a double digit lead for the first time in the game. Rollins would take its largest lead of the game at 14 points with 1:10 remaining and cruised to victory.

Both teams made 22 field goals in the game, with 12 3-pointers. However, Rollins won the game by getting to the foul line consistently and knocking down 18 free throws, doubling the Sharks’ total free throw attempts.

Cahill finished the game with 11 points while Roesch knocked down seven points.

The Sharks will stay on the road to face the Tampa Spartans Saturday at 4 p.m. live on 640 Sports.
