BOCA RATON, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern men’s basketball team (11-5, 4-3 SSC) won its third straight game, as the Sharks defeated the Lynn Fighting Knights (10-7, 2-5 SSC), 66-63, Saturday on the road.

“They are tough to play against, they are quicker than us and apply a lot of pressure,” said head coach Gary Tuell. “It’s great to get a win on the road in this league, I’m just happy for our guys because they keep finding a way to get it done.”

Brian Cahill (So., Arlington, Va.) had another solid night, leading the Sharks in scoring for the fourth time in five games. Cahill had 16 points and six rebounds against Lynn. He shot 3-for-6 from 3-point range. Iran Hollis (Sr., Hollywood, Fla.) had a game-best eight rebounds and 13 points. Lukas Roesch (Sr., Sugar Grove, Ohio) had 10 points and a career-high five assists.

The Sharks played a close first half in which the Sharks held off a hot-shooting home team. Lynn shot 50 percent from the floor in the opening period and 60 percent from 3-point range. The Sharks shot a shade under the Fighting Knights at 44 percent, but made up for it by creating second chance opportunities with seven offensive boards.

Neither team led by more than four points in the period, but the Sharks would take a 32-30 half time lead off a Hollis 3-pointer with 32 seconds left. Cahill had 10 points at the break, marking his second-straight game with double-digit scoring in the first half.

NSU made a run at the start of the second half and eventually held its largest lead at 13 points with 9:14 left in the game. Lynn began to pressure heavily down the stretch with effectiveness, cutting its deficit in half with two minutes to go.

NSU saw their lead shrink to two points with a minute to go after Lynn’s Jeremy Lampkin scored on three straight possessions. Up by two, the Sharks couldn’t score a bucket, but worked the clock down to 30 seconds. Lynn attempted to get find an open 3-pointer, but tossed the ball out of bounds. With no shot clock, the Sharks went to the foul line and made one out of two attempts. Lynn had a chance to send it to overtime, but missed a long 3-pointer to end the day.

The Sharks won the game in the second half by getting to the line at a consistent rate. After three attempts in the first half, NSU earned 11 points at the charity stripe in the final period. Lynn had trouble getting to the line all day, with only six attempts in the game.

The Sharks kept their rotation tight, with only three players coming off the bench. However, the Sharks picked up 16 points on 50 percent shooting from Stian Berg (So., Baerum, Norway), Jacob Reed (Jr., Perth, Australia) and Sean Mullan (Sr., Mangerton, Australia). In contrast, Lynn brought six players off the bench and scored 12 points on 4-for-18 shooting.

The Sharks will return home on Wednesday to face another South Florida rival, Barry, at 7:30 p.m. The game will broadcast live on 640 Sports.
