FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women's soccer team (4-8-1, 0-5-1 SSC) begins its second three-game road trip of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 21, in St. Petersburg, Fla. against the Eckerd Tritons (7-6-0, 1-3-0 SSC). The match is set for a 7 p.m. start.
This is the only match of season between the teams, but NSU and the Eckerd saw plenty of each other a year ago, matching up three separate times. The Sharks had a 1-1-1 record against the Tritons last season, but saw their season come to an unlikely end against their conference foe in the Sunshine State Conference quarterfinals, 1-0. Though the Sharks outshot the Tritons 32-2 on the evening, Eckerd's lone goal came in the 36th minute to give them the win.
The Sharks enter Tuesday's match on a four-game slide against the top four teams in the SSC. NSU is most recently coming off a 4-1 defeat on Saturday against Rollins, who currently sits second in the conference. Rebecca Barb (So., Woodbury, N.J.) scored the game's first goal in the 12th minute, before the Tars tied up the match before half. A three-goal second half from Rollins proved to be the difference in a tightly-contested match.
The Tritons come into the match with the Sharks having lost their last two matches, against Lynn, 2-1, and No. 13 Tampa, 1-0. Eckerd has been a balanced team offensively, as 12 Triton players have scored this season. Arie Anahory leads the team in goals, with six.
NSU leads the overall series against Eckerd, 9-4-4.The last time the Sharks beat the Tritons on their home field in St. Petersburg was in 2011, 2-0.
