FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Coming off a solid weekend of Sunshine State Conference competition, the Nova Southeastern University men's and women's swimming teams will return to the NSU Aquatic Complex on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 3 p.m. The Sharks will step out of conference action for a week and face the highly-touted Indian River State men and women for the first time at home since starting the program in 2010.
Both the NSU men and women posted solid wins over Rollins this past weekend. The Sharks women defeated the Tars 119-86 and improved their overall dual meet record to 3-0, while the men's team got back on the winning track with a convincing 173-32 win to improve to 2-1.
Last week,
Shane Kleinbeck (Sr., San Antonio, Texas) posted solid performances for the Sharks by winning the 500-yard freestyle and combining on NSU's A-relay team for a victory in the 800-yard freestyle. He also competed on the 200-yard medley relay which finished second.
Brooke Munion (Fr., Bethlehem, Pa.) also put together solid performances for the women's team. She won the 1000-yard freestyle individually and combined with the NSU A-relay squad for a win in the 800-yard freestyle event.
The Indian River State women's team comes into Thursday's meet with a 1-1 dual meet record. Despite starting the season with a loss against the Florida International women's team, the IRSC women won six of 13 events to start the season. They followed with a 186-76 win over NSU's conference rival Tampa last weekend. In the previous three seasons, the NSU women are winless against IRSC (0-3) and look to improve the outcome after Thursday.
The IRSC men's team has only one meet under their belt coming into Thursday's matchup after defeating NSU's conference rival Tampa 153-109 on the road. In their three previous meetings, the Sharks are 1-2 against the Indian River State men's team with their only win coming during the 2011-12 season by a score of 135-127.
