Men’s Golf Takes Title at St. Edward’s Invitational

All five Sharks land in top-25.

FINAL RESULTS

AUSTIN, Texas –
The No. 1 Nova Southeastern men’s golf team returned to its winning ways, taking the championship at the St. Edward’s Invitational in Austin, Texas with a score of +10 874 (294-282-298).

The Sharks took their first title of the spring after a frustrating start to the season. After taking the minimum amount of golfers to its first tournament, the Sharks were rained out of their second tournament at Armstrong Atlantic State. This week, the Sharks were finally able to display the team’s full talent and proved why they are the top ranked team in the country. NSU place all five golfers in the top-25 and were the only team to have five golfers finish in the top-40.

No. 1 Benjamin Taylor (Jr., Leatherhead, England) entered the final day with the fourth-best score on his team, but finished the day as the top-Shark and claimed third overall. He shot a 69 in round three, the lowest round in the tournament for his team. He finished the tournament at an even par 216 (77-70-69).

One stroke behind Taylor was No. 6 Ricardo Celia (So., Barranquilla, Columbia), who tied for fourth after finishing with a third-round score of 75. Celia finished at +1 217 (71-71-75). Mitch Farrer (Jr., West Sussex, England) tied for 12th in the tournament after shooting a 77 on the final day. Farrer checked in at +6 222 (73-72-77) for the tournament.

Behind Farrer by a stroke was Ian Facey (So., Miami, Fla.), who rounded out the Sharks’ team score. Facey also scored a 77 in round three to bring his score to +7 223 (75-71-77). Rounding out the Sharks was freshman Hunter O'Mahony (Jupiter, Fla.), who finished 21st overall with a final score of +9 225 (75-70-80). O’Mahony finished higher than the top golfer on six teams in the field.

The Sharks will carry their momentum into their next tournament, when they return to Georgia for the Bobcat Invitational, hosted by Georgia College and State.
