MIAMI – The Nova Southeastern track and field teams continued a marquee 2013 campaign, earning several provisional qualifying times at the Miami Alumni Invitational Saturday.
“This is probably our best meet in school history,” said head coach
Bryan Hagopian. “We had a lot of Sharks provisionally qualify, we had numerous school records broken and made a great mark in NSU track and field history.”
The Sharks battled through a rain-soaked invitational to earn a total of four qualifying marks. The meet sets the Sharks up for a run at the program’s first conference title at the inaugural Peach Belt Track and Field Championships next week.
NSU’s loan win came in the 3000-meter run, as
Peri Bowman (Jr., Virginia Beach, Va.) beat the field with a time of 10:36.4. Bowman was also NSU’s top finisher in the 1500-meter run, claiming sixth with a time of 4:56.1.

Jessica Osteen (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.) continued to make her mark as one of NSU’s greatest track athletes, with a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. Her time of 59.86 provisionally qualified for nationals and was four-tenths of a second off of an automatic qualifying time. It also beat a school record set in 2011. On the men’s side,
Patrico Morency (So., Naples, Fla.) claimed fifth with a time of 56.85 in the same event.
The Sharks’ 4x100-meter relay team had a banner day, provisionally qualifying for nationals with a time of 46.10 to claim fourth place. The relay team was made up of Osteen,
Johniqua Stafford (Sr., Fort Worth, Texas),
Nicole Poole (Fr., Altimonte Springs, Fla.) and
Ciona Williams (Fr., Stockton, Calif.).
Stafford and Williams claimed NSU’s two other provisional marks, each in the 100-meter dash. The relay teammates were a 100th of a second away from each other, as Stafford claimed 12th with school-record time of 11.89 and Williams finished in 13th with a time of 11.9 flat, tying the previous school mark.
