FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women's soccer team (1-1-0) travels up north for its first road test of the season, at the Columbus State Collegiate Invitational. The Sharks take on North Alabama (2-1-0) Friday, Sept. 13 at 4:30 p.m. then face Lenoir-Rhyne (2-0-0) Sunday, Sept. 15, with kickoff set for 12:30 p.m.
The Sharks head into the tournament after splitting last weekend's matches at home, beating West Georgia, 1-0, and falling to Georgia College, 3-1. Malin Broberg (Sr., Stockholm, Sweden) has scored both goals for the Sharks to this point of the season.
North Alabama enters Friday's match against the Sharks having posted a 2-1 record, most recently beating West Alabama, 3-2, in double overtime. Abby Fannin has been the biggest offensive threat for the Lions, scoring twice on four shots on target. In the three times these teams have met, the Sharks have won twice. The last time these teams faced off was in 2005, where NSU comfortably beat North Alabama, 4-0.
The Sharks' second opponent, Lenoir-Rhyne, enters the weekend with a 2-0 record, topping Lees-McRee, 2-1, and Pfeiffer, 3-2. The Bears have shown a balanced attack through two games, as they have had five different goal scorers. The Sharks have played the Bears just one time, in 2002, where Lenoir-Rhyne got the best of NSU, winning 2-0.
Last year, when the Sharks traveled to Georgia for a tournament, hosted by Georgia College and State, the Sharks split its two matches, beating GCSU1-0, before falling to Tusculum, 3-0.
