FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. Nova Southeastern soccer will host a cross-town showdown Wednesday in a doubleheader against the Lynn Fighting Knights. The men (2-1-0) will kick things off against No. 6 Lynn at 5 p.m., with the women's (3-1-0) match starting afterwards. Both matches are non-conference contests.

The women's match will serve as the team's Shark Night, with the NSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee putting on a "White Out." Fans are encouraged to come pack the stands in their white Sharks gear. NSU athletics will be running contests with giveaways during both matches.

The NSU men will look to set the tone for the evening with an upset over the defending NCAA national champions. NSU will carry momentum into the match, winning their last two contests by a combined score of 5-0. NSU got its first win of the season against North Georgia back on Sept. 8. It was a breakout performance for the young NSU squad, with two freshmen, Viktor Jonsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) and Dylan Papa (Farmington, Conn.), scoring their first collegiate goals.

NSU continued to roll against Ave Maria, with Karl Enarsson (So., Gothenburg, Sweden) scoring his first collegiate goal for the game-winner. Over the first three matches of the year, five players have scored their first career goals. All six goals this season have come from six different individuals.

Lynn will enter the match looking for retribution. The last time they came to the NSU Soccer Complex in 2012, they were upset by the Sharks on a second-half goal by Stefano Fanfoni (So., Cremona, Italy). It was the Sharks' first win over a No. 1-ranked team and Lynn's only conference loss of the season.

The biggest factor, depending on the weather, could be the September heat during the match slated to finish before the sun sets. The Knights will have little problem dealing with the heat, as they play all of their home games during the day. NSU has worked towards playing well under these conditions. Their match against North Georgia began at 1 p.m. and although their match against Ave Maria was at night, the heat and humidity of the everglades was unkind to the Sharks. In the end, the Sharks were able to shut out both opponents.

The women's team comes into Wednesday's match after a perfect 2-0 weekend at the Columbus State Collegiate Invitational. NSU beat North Alabama, 3-0, and No. 14 Lenoir-Rhyne, 2-1, in double overtime. Malin Broberg (Sr., Stockholm, Sweden) has been the primary target for the Sharks, offensively, scoring a goal in each of the first four matches of the season, three of which have been game-winners.

Defensively, NSU has been stout, allowing less than one goal a game. A big part of that is the senior leadership and anchors of the Sharks defense, Dilja Olafsdottir (Sr., Reykjavik, Iceland) and Alexandra Siciliano (Sr., New Hyde Park, N.Y.), along with the incredible goalkeeping of newcomer Sandra Rolon (Jr., San Juan, P.R.). Rolon has faced 40 shots this season and has allowed only four goals against her.

The Fighting Knights enter Wednesday splitting their first two matches of the season at the Holiday Inn Express Savannah Midtown Pirate Shootout in Savannah, Ga., last weekend. The Knights won their first match of the season against Clayton State on Friday, 2-0, followed by a 2-0 loss to No. 5 Armstrong State, Sunday. Linzi Martin and Kirstie Schultz are the two goal scorers this season for the Knights, while goalkeeper Caitlin Shaver has had 10 saves on 23 shots faced, thus far.
