NSU Swimming Struggles on the Road

Simpson and Chapple pick up single event wins for the Sharks.

FINAL RESULTS

LAKELAND, Fla.
– It was a rough start in 2014 for the Nova Southeastern University men's and women's swimming teams as they faced No. 4 Florida Southern on the road Saturday afternoon.  The NSU women fell to the Moccasins 134-71, while the Sharks men lost 146-59.

With both the Florida Southern teams ranked in the top five coming into Saturday's meet, they dominated NSU's 15th-ranked women and No. 14 men after combining to win 19 of the 22 events.

Junior Lauren Chapple (London, England), who already has a few provisional qualifying times this season won two events for the Sharks. Her first came in the women's 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:11.36, followed by Nicole Shultz (Sr., Roseville, Calif.) in second place at 2:13.38. Chapple also posted a win in the women's 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:12.17.

On the men's side, Esau Simpson (Sr., St. David's, Grenada) was the only NSU male to earn an individual win for the Sharks. He posted a winning time of 21.16 in the men's 50-yard freestyle to keep the Mocs from having an individual winner in each of the 11 male events.

The next time out for the NSU swim teams will be on Jan. 24 at 4 pm. The women will host the Lynn Fighting Knights, while the men will participate in an intrasquad meet. It will also be senior day for the Sharks where they will celebrate the accomplishments of the 16 seniors on this year's squad.
