FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University women's soccer team puts the finishing touches on their 2014 season on Thursday night when Johnson & Wales comes to the NSU Soccer Complex for a match beginning at 7 p.m.
The Sharks (7-6-0) will put a three-game winning streak on the line against the Wildcats (3-8-4), an NAIA school that they'll be facing for just the second time in program history. The only other meeting took place on Sept. 11, 2011, a 9-0 NSU victory. Current Sharks
Sierra Lelii (R-Jr., Seminole, Fla.) and
Kaitlyn Cauffman (Sr., Orlando, Fla.) each notched an assist in the rout.
NSU has sandwiched two wins over Lynn (5-0 last Wednesday and 2-0 on Tuesday night) around another 2-0 victory, Saturday against Eckerd. It's the first time the team has had three consecutive shutout victories since October of 2010.
Johnson & Wales forced a draw in each of their last two contests and is 0-2 against common opponents. They fell to Eckerd on Sept. 13, 9-0, and on Oct. 13, lost an in-conference matchup to Florida Memorial, 1-0. The Sharks topped that same Florida Memorial squad on Sept. 23, 8-0.
The Wildcats have been outscored 29-14 this season and are led by Michelle Mejia's four goals. The team finished up with a 2-4-3 mark within the Sun Conference, and earned the sixth seed in the postseason tournament, the highest in program history. Thursday will mark their regular season finale as well.
