Men's Basketball Falls in Second Exhibition

Spears, Farrell combine for 24 points off bench

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern men's basketball team couldn't overcome an early hot-shooting Southeastern team as they fell in their second exhibition game of the year, 84-67 Tuesday night at the NSU Arena.

The Fire started the game on a 9-0 run, with the Sharks not getting their first points until a little over three minutes in when Justin Jeangerard (Sr., Weaverville, Calif.) buried a 3-pointer. Three times, NSU cut the deficit to four points, the last with 8:23 to go in the first when a Brian Cahill (Sr., Arlington, Va.) '3' made it 25-21, but Southeastern extended the lead back out to 13 at the half, 44-31. Those would be two of only four long-range shots the Sharks made on the evening.

The second half started out similarly, with a 13-2 Fire run. The Sharks' second unit created a spark; in fact, they scored 26 of the team's 36 after the break (and 39 of the overall 67). But Southeastern shot 60 percent as a team in the second 20 minutes, and 56.4 percent in the game, to seal the victory.

Troy Spears (Fr., Martinsville, Ind.) came off the bench and tallied a team-high 15 points for NSU. Starter Harrison Goodrick (So., Sydney, Australia) narrowly missed a double-double, scoring 12 and pulling down nine rebounds. Other second-unit stars included Remi Farrell (So., Woodbridge, Conn.), with nine points and six boards; Mike Chalas (Jr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.), who scored seven on 3-of-5 shooting; and Nick Rosa (Fr., Coral Springs, Fla.), who added six points and had two rebounds.

Andre' Winston led six double-figure scorers for Southeastern with 18, while Dana Thomas had 14 points and eight rebounds.

The Sharks will finish out their exhibition slate this upcoming Saturday, Nov. 8, when they host Covenant College for a 7:30 tipoff at the NSU Arena.
