Tennis Wins Seventh Straight With Sweep of Southeastern

NSU defeats third straight Sun Conference opponent.

RESULTS

LAKELAND, Fla. The Nova Southeastern tennis team (9-3) rolled to its seventh straight win Saturday in Lakeland, Fla. with a sweep of the Southeastern Fire (8-3), 9-0.

The coaching staff adjusted its lineup to shake up singles play, but still received all positive results. NSU benched its top-two singles players and adjusted the rest of the team up. Carlee Rizzolo (So., Livingston, Fla.) stepped up in the ace role and won the day's only tight match. Rizzolo defeated the Fire's ace, Sadietou Mayou, 1-6, 6-2, 10-3.

"I'm proud of Carlee for stepping up and beating a very good player," said head coach Stephen Schram. "The overall team effort was good and will help us get ready for the second half of the season."

The rest of singles play was smooth sailing for the Sharks. Juliet Serabian (So., Plantation, Fla.) won her match in the second draw and Alex Kaeser (Fr., Woodstock, Ga.) won in the sixth, each by the score of 6-2, 6-0. Linda Kornienko (So., Fort Myers, Fla.), Bianca Roberts (Jr., Tampa, Fla.) and Iryna Serdyuk (So., Boca Raton, Fla.) each won their matches as well in dominant fashion. The trio only dropped one game each during their matches.

NSU started their momentum in doubles play, where the Sharks dropped a total of four games over three different matches. Sabrina Kierberg (So., Berlin, Germany) and Kaeser won their seventh straight match over Sadietou Mayou and Alexis Quinn, 8-3. Alexandra Johansson (Jr., Sydney, Australia) teamed with Serdyuk again and shutout Madeline Wills and Wendy Reade, 8-0. The third flight was won by Kornienko and Serabian over Mason Bellar and Stephanie Dodd, 8-1.

NSU will continue its road trip Sunday against Webber International at 11:30 a.m.
