RESULTS
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 15 Nova Southeastern tennis team (11-3) extended its winning streak to nine matches Friday with a win over NCAA Division-I Nebraska-Omaha (3-7), 8-1, at the NSU Tennis Complex.
The Sharks earned the victory with efficient play in doubles and wide victories in the final third of singles play. Starting the day in doubles,
Alex Kaeser (Fr., Woodstock, Ga.) and
Sabrina Kierberg (So., Berlin, Germany) defeated Alex Tran and Hylan Miller, 8-3. The Sharks are undefeated when Kaeser and Kierberg start the match with a doubles win in the top flight.
In the second draw,
Alexandra Johansson (Jr., Sydney, Australia) paired with
Carlee Rizzolo (So., Livingston, N.J.) for the first time this season and earned positive results. They duo defeated Tiffany Hottman and Molly Matricardi, 8-3. NSU completed the sweep with its rock in the third draw, the team of
Linda Kornienko (So., Fort Myers, Fla.) and
Juliet Serabian (So., Plantation, Fla.). They defeated Kenzie Hill and Jacqueline Baude, 8-2.
The battle for points was held in the top-three singles draw with a trio of close matches. Johansson pulled out the win in the top draw over Tran, 4-6, 7-6, 10-4. In the second draw, Kierberg stayed undefeated with a win over Miller, 6-4, 6-0. NSU's only loss came in a nail-biter, with Rizzolo falling just short against Matricardi, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.
The rest of singles play went smooth for the Sharks. Serabian won in the fourth slot over Lindsay Weideman, 6-1, 6-2. Her doubles teammate Kornienko won over Baude, 6-0, 6-3. In the final flight,
Bianca Roberts (Jr., Tampa, Fla.) defeated Hill, 6-3, 6-1.
NSU will have a huge threat to its nine-game winning streak on Saturday at 10 a.m. The Sharks take on Emory, the third-ranked team in NCAA DIII, at the NSU Tennis Complex.
