FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University men's soccer team (5-6-0, 1-4-0 SSC) dropped its Wednesday evening home match to the Florida Tech Panthers (4-3-1, 2-2-1 SSC), 4-0.
NSU dropped the match due to a barrage of goals in the second half. However, NSU held the Panthers scoreless in the first 45 minutes during a much more balanced period. NSU looked as if they'd score early, earning a clean look at goal in the second minute, but freshman striker
Nate Bladecki (Troy, Mich.) put the ball just wide.
NSU held possession often early but struggled to find chances against a tight FIT defense. The Panthers were able to fire off a few non-threatening shots, but neither team were allowed clean looks for the majority of the period. With roughly 10 seconds left in the half,
Caue Munareti Rodrigues (Jr., Sao Paulo, Brazil) took a free kick from 20 yards out that was deflected out, signaling the midway horn.
The second 45 proved to be a rough stretch for the Sharks, with Panthers' leading scorers Adin Kavara and Trey Collins both earning braces to put the Sharks down. Kavara scored the opening goal in the 57th minute from the left side of the box. Five minutes later, Collins stripped Taylor Baily (Fr., Greeneville, Tenn.) and scored into a wide open net.
Down 2-0 in the 67th minute, NSU was forced to play a man down after a red card on Bladecki. Kavara scored his second goal after a mix up in the box in the 69th minute. To wrap up the score, Collins scored again in the 80th minute unassisted, dribbling all the way into the box, to the left side, before firing in goal.
NSU finished the match with seven shot attempts, two of which were on target. Bailey played the full 90 in goal and made seven saves.
The Sharks will return to the road for the final time in the regular season, taking on the Rollins Tars at 7 p.m. Saturday.
