FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University swimming and diving teams concluded day three of the 2015 Sunshine State Conference Championship, leading on the women's side with 656.5 points and sitting in second place on the men's side with 606 points.
The highlight of the night came from
Anton Lobanov (Fr., Novosibirisk, Russia), swimming an all-time NCAA Division II record time of 52.00 in the men's 100-yard breaststroke. His swim was good enough to surpass the NCAA A-Standard mark.
In the first event of Saturday night's finals, the women's 500-yard freestyle,
Madison Yelle (Fr., Mansfield, Texas) swam a NCAA B-Standard time of 5:01.40, good enough for third place. She was followed by
Blake Woodrow (Fr., Fort Myers, Fla.), recording a third-place finish of his own, swimming a NCAA B-Standard time of 4:31.01 in the men's 500-yard freestyle.
Emma Wahlstrom (So., Stockholm, Sweden) trailed with a third-place finish in the women's 100-yard backstroke, swimming a NCAA B-Standard time of 56.15.
Malin Westman (Fr., Harryda, Sweden) then swam to a second-place finish in the women's 100-yard breaststroke, registering a NCAA B-Standard time of 1:02.57.
In the next event,
Courtney DeVeny (Fr, Estero, Fla.) set a SSC record in the 200-yard butterfly, swimming a NCAA B-Standard time of 2:01.20.
Thomas Rutherford (Fr., North Port, Fla.) trailed on the men's side, finishing in fifth place with a NCAA B-Standard time of 1:50.01.
The night concluded with the men's and women's 800-yard free relay. The men finished in second place, swimming a NCAA B-Standard time of 6:36.14. Continuing their dominance in the relays, the women finished in first place, swimming a new SSC record time of 7:22.67, surpassing the NCAA A-Standard mark.
The Sharks will look to claim the conference championship Sunday afternoon, beginning with the morning preliminaries, starting at 10 a.m.
