FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 10 Nova Southeastern University tennis team goes on the road Sunday for the first of four matches over a seven-day span, first traveling to West Palm Beach to take on Northwood at 1 p.m.
The Sharks (12-0, 4-0 SSC) won two more contests last week, each at home, with a 5-4 decision over No. 5 Lynn and a 7-2 win against No. 33 St. Edward's. They look for lucky No. 13 Sunday afternoon against the Northwood Seahawks, an NAIA squad that has won five in a row and holds a 6-3 overall record.
From there, the Sharks will host three matches at the NSU Tennis Center, on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. The first opponent to make the trek to Rolling Hills will be Division I Omaha (4-8) on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. match. The last two days will each be in-conference, against SSC rivals Eckerd (Friday at 3 p.m.) and No. 9 Rollins (Saturday at 10:30 a.m.), respectively. The Tritons are currently 5-5 and 0-2 in the SSC, while the Tars are 3-7 and have yet to play in the conference yet (but will do so twice this week prior to their match with the Sharks).
Several individual Sharks look to continue their extremely hot start to the season, some even still untouched as of yet. No. 1 singles player
Sabrina Kierberg (Jr., Munich, Germany) is 8-1 thus far, along with a 9-3 mark in doubles play. The Sharks' No. 2,
Petra Jurova (Jr., Bratislava, Slovakia), has not suffered a defeat yet, at 11-0 in singles and 12-0 in doubles, respectively. Freshman
Francesca Sella (Carpenedolo, Italy) is 8-1 in singles, 7-1 at No. 3, and NSU's first-third slots combined are 32-3.
No. 4
Irina Constantinide (Jr., Galati, Romania) is the only NSU singles competitor at 12-0 (and is 9-3 in doubles).
Alexandra Johansson (Sr., Sydney, Australia) is 8-2 at No. 5 in singles, and has combined with
Alex Kaeser (So., Woodstock, Ga.) to go 9-2 as the team's No. 3 doubles duo.
Carlee Rizzolo (Jr., Livingston, N.J.) has been almost flawless in the sixth singles draw, going 7-1 there and 8-1 overall, while winning her last three. The team is 58-11 overall in singles (.841 winning percentage), and 28-8 in doubles (.778).
