Box Score ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 10 Nova Southeastern University tennis team finished its sweep at the Spring Break Sports Tournament and won their ninth straight match of the spring, defeating No. 39 Grand Valley State Thursday afternoon at Sanlando Park, 8-1.
The Sharks (9-0, 3-0 SSC) won two doubles matches and all six singles contests to clinch their third match in as many days in Orlando. Winning twin 8-2 decisions were the doubles teams of
Sabrina Kierberg (Jr., Munich, Germany) and
Francesca Sella (Fr., Carpenedolo, Italy) in the top draw, and the second combo of
Irina Constantinide (Jr., Galati, Romania) and
Petra Jurova (Jr., Bratislavia, Slovakia).
Four of the six singles wins came in straight sets. No. 1 Kierberg gave up just one point in a 6-1, 6-0 final. Jurova at No. 2 took her contest 6-1, 6-2. Sella needed an extra set, but won at No.3, 6-4, 0-6, 10-5. Constantinide ran her singles record to 9-0 on the season with a double-donut win, 6-0, 6-0.
Alexandra Johansson (Sr., Sydney, Australia), in the No. 5 slot, won in three, 6-7, 6-3, 10-5, and last but not least, No. 6
Carlee Rizzolo (Jr., Livingston, N.J.) earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
The undefeated NSU squad returns home for the first time since Feb. 19 when on this upcoming Monday, March 9, they host Division I Butler. The Sharks and Bulldogs begin play at the NSU Tennis Center at 2 p.m. on that day.
