Men's Basketball Outlasted by Lynn in Final Minutes

Sharks rally to tie from 19 down but are edged out despite efforts of Goodrick, Page

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University men's basketball team rallied for yet another furious comeback on Wednesday night, tying it up after trailing by 19 in the second half, but were edged out at the end by Lynn, 72-65.

Trailing 52-33 with only 11:55 left, the Sharks (7-11, 3-7 SSC) stormed back with a 26-7 run, including the last 15 of the stretch for a 59-59 tie at 3:08. It tied again at the 2:33 mark, 61-61, after two successful Chris Page (Sr., Plainfield, Ind.) free throws.

But unfortunately for NSU, Lynn (10-8, 4-6 SSC) righted the ship and scored 11 of the game's final 15 points. The closest the Sharks got was two, 65-63, with exactly a minute remaining after a short Troy Spears (So., Martinsville, Ind.) jumper. In the waning moments, the Fighting Knights made all of their free throw attempts and forced a couple of costly NSU turnovers for the victory.

Page and Harrison Goodrick (Jr., Sydney, Australia) scored all but four of the Sharks' 26 during the run, with the former posting 17 of his total of 20 after the break, and the latter achieving two new career standards in 25 points and 17 rebounds. He had already posted a double-double at the halftime break (12 and 11), his fifth of the year (all against Sunshine State Conference opponents), shot 12-for-17, and corralled eight of his 17 boards on the offensive end.

The duo had the vast majority of the team's scoring on Wednesday, with Spears next with nine and Nick Pendergast (Sr., Bridgewater, Conn.) scoring five and adding five rebounds. As a unit, the squad shot a blazing 53.1 percent in the second half, 17-of-32, and 26 of their 41 points post-break came in the paint.

David Johnson was the top scorer for the Fighting Knights with 19, and Fred Landers added 16.

Next up for the Sharks is Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday. The Sailfish upended fellow conference provisional member Embry-Riddle Wednesday night, 72-66. Game time from West Palm Beach will be at 4 p.m.
