Sharks Fall, 3-1, in Final Game of South Region Crossover

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern volleyball team dropped its last match of the South Region Crossover, 3-1, to the West Florida Argonauts on Saturday at the Orlando Sports Complex. After going 2-1 in the tournament, the Sharks hold an overall record of 10-8. UWF also went 2-1 and now hold a 15-6 record.

Tashalyn Begon led the Sharks with her 14 kills and added seven digs while Jessica Ronyak registered a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs. Katie Pyles contributed 40 assists to go along with eight digs and seven kills and Megan Burns collected 20 digs and five aces.

The Sharks held the lead throughout the first half of the first set before the Argos went on a 7-4 run to tie things up, 12-12. The set saw four more ties before UWF pulled away, taking the lead on a kill by Rachel Neblett en route to a 25-22 win.

Back-to-back aces by Burns propelled NSU to a 2-0 lead in the second set and once again, the Sharks held the advantage through most of the set. NSU's largest lead came at 15-7 when Burns tallied her third ace of the set. After a timeout called by UWF, the Argos returned to the court to go on a 7-2 run to come within three, 17-14. The Sharks held a slight advantage until UWF went on another run to tie the match at 21-21. A kill by Kathryn Torre gave the Argos game point advantage (24-23) but an error and a kill by Ronyak put the Sharks back on top (25-24) before another error by UWF pushed NSU to the 26-24 win.

Set three was a neck-and-neck battle, seeing seven ties before UWF took off on a 7-2 run to grab a 16-11 edge and force the Sharks to call timeout. After returning to the court, the Argos continued to put on the pressure and eventually ended up on top, 25-17.

UWF jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the fourth before the Sharks were able to even the score 7-7 with an ace by Burns. The Sharks would never take the lead, however, and the Argos went on to take the set, 25-23, for the overall win.

The Sharks will return to the friendly confines of the NSU Arena on Tuesday, Oct. 18, where they will look to even the series with Barry at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday's match will serve as a Think Pink match and the Nova Southeastern University Athletic Department is extending free admission to any cancer survivors, warriors and families (up to four people).
