FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – For the second time this season, Nova Southeastern's cross country teams have swept the Sunshine State Conference's Runner of the Week awards.
Freshman runner
Allison Porter and graduate student
Christian Oppel make history, as this sweep marks the first time in program history the Sharks have garnered both weekly awards multiple times in one season.
Porter earns her second SSC weekly honor this season following a strong performance at the USF Invitational, finishing third overall in the non-Division I section and first among Division II runners. Porter clocked in with a time of 20:50.34 in the 5k race.
Oppel receives his first-ever SSC weekly award after finishing fourth in the non-Division I section and first overall among Division II runners in the 8k race at the USF Invitational. Oppel crossed the finish line in 27:48.73.
"It is a great accomplishment to sweep the SSC awards more than once in the same season," said head coach
Bryan Hagopian. "We have never had this happen in our program and it is a great confidence builder going into the conference championship."
The Sharks will compete in the SSC Championship this Saturday, Oct. 22nd in Melbourne, Fla.
