SEATTLE, Wash. – The Nova Southeastern women's basketball team struggled offensively in its final game of the Seattle-Pacific Classic, falling to the No. 14 host team, 75-50 on Saturday evening. With the loss, the Sharks move to 8-3 overall, while the Falcons improve to a perfect 10-0.
The Sharks grabbed a 4-0 lead early in the first off a pair of jumpers by
Megan Piggott and
Christen Prasse, and continued to hold the lead until the 2:43 mark when Seattle-Pacific took the lead, 10-9 and never looked back. The home team used a 14-1 run in the last 4.5 minutes to take an 18-10 advantage heading into the second.
The next two quarters saw the Sharks get outscored, 43-18. Turnovers proved to be a big factor in Saturday evening's game, as the Falcons capitalized on 12 turnovers in the second and third, resulting in 14 points for the home team. Overall, the Sharks committed 20 total turnovers that turned into 22 points for SPU.
NSU saw its offense improve in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough. From the field, the Sharks shot a game-high 45.5 percent and also connected on 11-of-15 from the line, resulting in 22 total points, their highest scoring quarter of the game. NSU's defense also made marks in the fourth, outrebounding the Falcons 9-6 and forcing four turnovers.
Piggott continues to be a strong offensive threat for the Sharks, recording 13 points. Prasse was the only other Shark to tally double-digit points, matching Piggott's 13 points while adding six rebounds and two steals. For the third-straight game,
Samantha Logan led NSU with a game-high 12 rebounds. Amanda Tienius also added seven rebounds and three steals.
The Falcons had a spread offense, including 37 points coming off the bench, but were led by Jordan McPhee with 13 points.
At the end of Saturday evening's game, SPU announced the All-Tournament team and from her 31-point performance over the weekend, Piggott represented for NSU.
The Sharks will be back in action on Monday at 2:00 p.m. PST as they travel to Burnaby, B.C., Canada to take on the Simon Fraser Clan. For live coverage, head to NSUSharks.com.
