DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University softball (12-38, 2-22 SSC) dropped two games to Embry-Riddle (34-13) with scores of 8-0 and 9-1 to open the three game series on Friday night.
The first game of the doubleheader went to the Eagles as Kassidy Simons (17-4) allowed just two Shark hits and struck out five.
Megan Granitto (Fr., Wellington, Fla.), who is now 6-15 on the year, gave up 10 hits and struck out two.
The Sharks saw three hits in game two off of Raquelli Bianco (10-3) who also had six strikeouts.
Dajia Jones (Jr., Jacksonville, Fla.) moves to 4-14 allowing eight hits and picking up two strikeouts.
Game 1
The Eagles went up early scoring two runs in the bottom of the first off a two-RBI double by Robi Zimmerman. They tacked on two more in the bottom of the third with a one-out single from Haleigh Lewis to go up 4-0.
The Sharks spoiled Simons' no-hitter as
Sophia Devesa (Fr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) hit a one-out single in the top of the fifth but would be left on base.
Katey Blummer (Jr., Naples, Fla.) followed that up with a single of her own in the top of the sixth.
The Eagles put up their fifth run followed by a three-run home run by Raquelli Bianco in the bottom of the sixth to take the game 8-0.
Game 2
Embry-Riddle began game two with a run in the bottom of the first. The Sharks came up with a double from
Haley Gonzales (So., Boca Raton, Fla.) and a single from Devesa in the top of the second to put runners on the corners.
Jessie Brown (So., Hollywood, Fla.) then tied the game with a two-out single to score Gonzales.
The Eagles regained the lead in the bottom of the third off a fielder's choice and a RBI single by Kailah Rain to go up 3-1. Rain brought in three more runs for Embry-Riddle with a double in the bottom of the fifth. The Sharks walked in a run and Bianco doubled to left center to plate two more runs and end the game 9-1 in the Eagles favor.
