FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University softball (11-31, 1-17 SSC) dropped the final two games of the Palm Beach Atlantic series on Saturday afternoon with respective scores of 13-0 and 4-0.
The first game featured a stifling offensive effort from the Sailfish as they tallied 13 hits to the Sharks three.
Dajia Jones (Jr., Jacksonville, Fla.) moved to 4-11 on the season giving up 11 earned runs, two walks and striking out one. Rachel Hill (12-7) got the win for PBA holding NSU scoreless and picking up seven strikeouts in six innings.
The second game was a much closer contest as the Sharks put up five hits to PBA's eight.
Megan Granitto (Fr., Wellington, Fla.) only gave up two earned runs of the four and is now 5-11 on the season with the loss. Amber Johnson (12-1) earned her second win of the series.
Game 1The game remained within the Sharks reach as PBA only scored three over the first three innings. The Sailfish then widened the gap in the top of the fourth with another three runs off of four hits and two Shark errors.
PBA scored their other seven runs in the top of the sixth beginning with a two-RBI single from their leading hitter Victoria Gonzalez. Back-to-back doubles from Theresa Butler and Loren Kilgore would bring around two more. A double to left center by pinch hitter S.J. Collier would score Kilgore. Brianna Rano's single would bring home another run followed by a sacrifice fly from pinch hitter Nikki Brinegar to bring around Collier and take us to a final score of 13-0.
Game 2PBA got off to a quick start in game two, putting up two runs in the top of the first off of singles by Ali French and Gonzalez and an infield fly hit by Butler. The Sharks tried to answer in the bottom of the inning as
Dakota Villella (Jr., Hollywood, Fla.) and
Katey Blummer (Jr., Naples, Fla.) started off with a single apiece but NSU could not convert.
The Sailfish scored their final two runs in the top of the third after Gonzalez hit a sac fly and Butler singled to center field. Blummer, who went 2-for-3, saw her second hit of the game in the bottom of the fourth but was left on base. The NSU defense held tough, but the last hit of the game would come from
Sabrina Fischer (Fr., Loxahatchee, Fla.) in the bottom of the fifth.
