FORT LAUDERDALE – The Nova Southeastern University men's and women's swim teams picking up two wins apiece on Wednesday afternoon topping both Indianapolis and Rollins men's and women's teams in a tri-meet hosted at the NSU Aquatic Complex.
The No. 2 Sharks men picked up a solid 147-115 win over No. 13 Indianapolis and dominated Sunshine State Conference rival Rollins by a final of 214-47. The third-ranked NSU women's team handled the competition in dominating fashion by defeating No. 16 Indianapolis 192-70 followed by a 216-46 win over the visiting Rollins Tars.
Of the 28 events scheduled, the Sharks managed to pull out 22 total event wins versus their opponents.
Emma Wahlstrom continued to lead the charge on the women's side winning four events with three provisional qualifying times. She, along with
Malin Westman,
Courtney DeVeny and
Sydney Panzarino, swam the women's 200 medley relay for a winning time of 1:46.72. Although not her fastest times this year, Wahlstrom also posted provisional qualifying times to win the women's 100 free (51.37), 200 free (1:51.93) and 500 free (4:58.70) events.
Westman and Panzarino were the only other Sharks to post provisional qualifying times on the day. In addition to swimming the 200 medley relay event, Westman posted winning provisional times in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.14) and the 200 breaststroke (2:18.09). Panzarino won the women's 50 free with a provisional time of 24.02.
Other Sharks women picking up victories were
Madison Yelle in the 1,000 freestyle (10:37.96), DeVeny won the 100 backstroke (59.97) and 200 backstroke (2:09.73),
Caroline Oster picked up a victory in the 200 butterfly (2:08.98) and Panzarino, Oster,
Jordan Shows and
Brooke Munion swam a winning time of 1:38.02 in the women's 200 yard freestyle relay.
On the men's side, both
Marco Aldabe and
Franco Lupoli picked up a pair of individual wins. Lupoli took first in the 200 free with a time of 1:42.83 and the 500 free at 4:46.98. Aldabe swam top times in the men's 200 backstroke (1:54.18) and 200 individual medley (1:53.26). He also swam as part of the men's A-Relay along with
Cory Klemm,
Thomas Rutherford and
Malique Elder that posted a victory in the 200 medley relay event with a time of 1:33.37.
Blake Woodrow to the top spot in the 1,000 yard freestyle with a time of 9:47.80, while
Stephen Klein won the men's 200 butterfly with a top time of 1:52.22. Elder followed with a winning swim in the 50 free at 21.07.
The Sharks will return to action on Saturday, January 14, 2017 when they host Florida Southern in their final home meet of the season. It will also senior day when the Sharks will recognize and honor all senior members of the men's and women's swim teams.
