HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Sharks got the first bite when Bestun Mohammed crossed to Noel Johnson in the box for the score, just under ten minutes into the match.
- The lead didn't last long, though, as Devi Ndrita assisted Guillaume Campos with a header in the 13th minute.
- The offenses went silent after that, with the next shot not recorded for nearly 20 minutes and just three shots total being tallied for the remainder of the half.
- Yet, something clicked out of the break, and the two teams combined for six shots in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Gaining the momentum, the Sharks were able to regain the advantage when a Darwin Lom penalty kick found the back of the net in the 56th minute.
- The defense stood strong and didn't let the lead slip away for a second time. The Sharks' backline allowed the Lions just three attempts the rest of the way, each one either wide or high, and the last one coming with 19 minutes remaining.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Johnson and Lom are the top two goal scorers for the Sharks this season, with four and three, respectively. They also combined for three goals, two from Johnson, in the team's other road victory, a 5-1 defeat of Flagler.
- Nico Rosiglioni only needed to make one save in the 44th minute of the match, but it was enough to earn him the win, bringing his 2017 record as goalkeeper to an even 3-3.
- Lom scored on the Sharks' first penalty kick attempt since September 26, 2015, when Caue Rodrigues did the same at Ave Maria. The team's last PK goal in conference play came from Viktor Jonsson at Florida Southern on October 4, 2014.
STATS OF THE NIGHT:
- The Sharks doubled up Saint Leo in shots in both halves, 4-2 in the first and 10-5 in the second.
- By outshooting the Lions 14-7, the Sharks held the advantage in that category for the first time in five games, when they edged out Florida Tech 14-13 despite the 3-1 defeat.
- The Sharks allowed a season-low two shots on goal, and the lowest total since September 7, 2014, when North Georgia was 0-for-9 in a 2-0 road shutout victory for the Sharks. It was also the fewest in an SSC match since allowing two at Eckerd in a 1-0 win on September 22, 2012.
