Corbin, Faistenauer Collect SSC Defensive Player of the Week Honors

Both players led their respective teams to perfect 2-0 weeks

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Capping a special past few days for Nova Southeastern's men's and women's soccer programs, both Bailey Corbin and Stefan Faistenauer have been named the Sunshine State Conference's Defensive Players of the Week, announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

A pair of big-time efforts from Corbin lifted the 25th-ranked Sharks to their first-ever outright SSC regular season championship last Friday. In Wednesday's 2-1 win over Lynn, Corbin recorded the equalizer in the 11th minute off a header to spark the Sharks' offense following a slow start. Three days later, the senior cashed in on another header, this time putting Nova Southeastern in front just prior to halftime before eventually clinching the regular season title with a 2-0 victory against Tampa. Her defensive efforts also limited a Lynn side fresh off a 10-goal outburst to just one score, in addition to helping the Sharks pick up their third shutout of the season versus the Spartans. Corbin has now scored in three of the Nova Southeastern's last four matches.

Faistenauer, meanwhile, proved clutch as Nova Southeastern capped its regular season with an upset over No. 19 Lynn and extra-time victory versus Embry-Riddle. The sophomore defender was unstoppable in the air in both matches, first delivering the game-winner on a header in the 84th minute to stun the Fighting Knights 1-0. His defensive performance was also key in the Sharks holding Lynn scoreless for only the second time this season. Nova Southeastern's road victory at Lynn was the program's first since 1986, when the school was known as the College of Boca Raton. In Sunday's 3-2 win against Embry-Riddle, Faistenauer tallied the timely equalizer on a header in the 88th minute to set up the eventual comeback. The Austria native wrapped up the year with three goals in his final four matches as the Sharks collectively closed 2017 with five wins in their final six. NSU's 8-7 record marked the first time since 2010 the school has finished with a winning record.

The NSU women's team will face off against the winner of Eckerd/Tampa in Friday's SSC Tournament semifinal round. For live coverage, visit click the schedule page on NSUSharks.com.
